Website Work Continues

Universal Microchip Scanner in Development
A new company, Chloe Standard, has begun development on a universal scanner for pet ID microchips. They have launched the beta version of their Microchip search engine, which aims to combine all Microchip registration information in a single online database, regardless of manufacturer. Currently, Microchip scanners are limited to a particular chip manufacturer and may only be able to identify the presence of, but not read, an implanted ID. A Universal scanner would solve that challenge.
Topical Flea Treatment products safety study
The EPA has announced it will be studying the safety of topical, spot-on flea and tick treatments.
This action follows an increasing number of reports of adverse reactions to dogs and cats using the products. The reports detailed mild to moderate skin irritation and stomach upset in most cases. Some major illness and deaths have been also been reported.
The ASPCA recently released a press release indicating cats are more likely to be harmed by the improper use of these products than dogs.
If you choose to use these products, always follow label directions.
Blood Test for Canine Cancer announced
OncoPet, a new blood test for canine cancer, has been announced by BioCurex. The test is modeled after the company’s human blood test. BioCurex expects the test to be available by the end of the year, since it does not anticipate needing regulatory approval for either the test or its production facility. A similar test for cats is planned.
