Why should I join STAR?
Choose one or all of the following reasons:
- earn free food thru Frequent Feeder programs (prescription diets excluded)
- help friends save money with Gift Certificates

Can I be a STAR member if I’m not on auto-delivery or do not subscribe to eMuse?
Unfortunately not. But you can sign up for both to qualify. The program is specifically designed to combine convenience, value and savings thru regular deliveries, newsletter offers and additional discounts.
I am already on auto-delivery and I subscribe to your newsletter. What additional benefits do I receive?
You will be automatically enrolled in a Frequent Feeder program so you can begin to earn free food. You also receive Gift Certificates for your friends, which earn you money when they are used. And you receive discounts on any additional items delivered along with your regularly scheduled food orders.
Can anyone become a Smiley Dog STAR member?
During the month of February (Valentine’s Day!), eMuse subscribers are eligible to join during open enrollment. Otherwise, membership is by invitation only.
How can I get invited?
There are 3 ways to receive an invitation for membership.
- If you are a newsletter subscriber and on auto-delivery, you will receive an invitation automatically.
- If you are a newsletter subscriber OR on auto-delivery, you may request an invitation. Once you have signed up for both auto-delivery and eMuse, you will either be immediately enrolled or placed on our waiting list, depending on our monthly quota.
- STAR members may extend invitations to their friends. Friends of current STAR members will be enrolled if they choose to sign up for auto-delivery and eMuse with their first order. Friends of current STAR members may be placed on the waiting list if they request to sign up at any time following their first delivery.
Since membership is by invitation only, how can my friends join?
As a STAR member, you may extend an invitation to any of your friends. If they choose to sign up for auto-delivery and eMuse when placing their first order, they will be automatically enrolled. If they request an invitation following their first order, they will either be placed on the waiting list, or immediately enrolled, depending on our monthly quotas.
Why is there a waiting list?
The STAR Program is intended to extend exclusive benefits to a select group of clients. In order to provide our highest level of service to members without compromising the quality of our overall service, we limit monthly enrollment in order to properly manage the program’s growth. At this time, we do not anticipate the waiting list to extend beyond one month.
Are there any costs to membership?
No. Enrollment and participation is free. STAR Members are responsible for paying the sales tax on any free bags of food received.
How do I get free food?
If you are using a brand of food which currently offers a manufacturer’s Frequent Feeder program, you will be given enrollment materials for the program. It will be your responsibility to follow guidelines for submission for manufacturer’s programs in order to qualify for your free bag of food.
How does the STAR Frequent Feeder program work?
If you are using a brand of food which does not offer a manufacturer program, you will be given a STAR Frequent Feeder Card. It will be your responsibility to record the date, formula name, and bag size of each of your food purchases on the card. Once you have completed 12 purchases, your next bag of food will be free. You can mix and match sizes and formulas on the STAR Frequent Feeder plan. Your free bag will be equal in size and value to the average purchase of your 12 bags.
For example, let’s say your completed card reflects purchases of six 30 lb. bags of a food, two 15 lb. bags, and four 40 lb. bags. The total weight of your 12 bags is 370 lbs. The average bag size from your completed card is 30 lbs (370 lbs. divided by 12 bags). You can see an example of how this is calculated, or download a copy of the STAR Feeder Card here.
How do STAR Gift Certificates work?
Upon enrollment, you will receive 3 Gift Certificates for your friends. Write your name on the Gift Certificate before giving it to your friend. When your friend uses the Gift Certificate you gave them, the amount of the Gift Certificate will be credited towards your next order. A STAR Gift Certificate may only be used once per household, so please do not give the same friend multiple Gift Certificates.
How can I get more STAR Gift Certificates?
Just give us a call or send us an email requesting more Gift Certificates. If you have a delivery scheduled soon, we’ll include them as part of your order. Otherwise, we’ll drop them in the mail to you. There is no charge for the Gift Certificates. A STAR Gift Certificate may only be used once per household, so please do not give the same friend multiple Gift Certificates.
How does the STAR 7% discount work?
Items you order in addition to your regularly scheduled delivery will be automatically discounted by 7%. If any item is already on promotion &/ or discounted by more than 7%, the STAR discount will not apply. The 7% discount will not apply to prescription or food items.
Some examples:
- You choose to add a treat to your order. The treat is currently featured at 10% off. You will receive 10% off rather than 7%.
- You choose to add cat litter to your food order. You will receive 7% discount on the litter rather than the standard 5% discount.
- You order any regularly priced item to be delivered along with your food. It will be discounted 7%. This applies to treats, but not to additional food products.
I didn’t get my discount on items ordered along with my food. What should I do?
